Biosafety Training: All researchers working with biological agents are strongly recommended to take the course module called 鈥淩isk Assessment Work Practices鈥. This module is designed to supplement the curriculum of CHE 410/510 and PSC 410/510. Other helpful CITI courses are available are the Biosafety Overview, Safe Sharp Devices and Universal Precautions and Work Practices.

*Note: Any researchers working in a BSL3 lab must demonstrate proficiency to EHS in a mock work through (without select agent). Passing researchers will receive a Certificate of Proficiency from EHS that should be placed in the Lab Management Plan. Only researchers with a certificate of Proficiency are allowed to work with select agent.

Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC)

SWAG视频 Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) was established under the  to provide local review and oversight of nearly all forms of research utilizing recombinant DNA. SWAG视频 has assigned the IBC the responsibility of reviewing and approving a variety of experimentation that involves biological materials (e.g., infectious agents) and other potentially hazardous agents (e.g., carcinogens). EHS is responsible for maintaining oversight and regulatory compliance for the IBC.

Any research or testing activity that involves the use of potentially hazardous agents (biological, chemical or rDNA) or the construction or use of genetically engineered organisms requires review by the IBC before beginning the project. The Bio Safety Review Check List must be completed and submitted to EHS to determine whether IBC approval is required.

*Note: A copy of any application, permit, license, etc. must be provided to EHS for documentation retention at the time of submission or receipt.
